Consultation

The portrait process begins with the consultation where we discuss the basic parameters of the drawing, such as: Subject(s), formal or informal pose, head & shoulders, 3/4 or full figure, size, medium etc. Once we have agreed on a basic vision for the drawing I can quote a price for the commission. (See also Price Chart below)

Photo Shoot

Having established the basic idea for the portrait, we will meet for the photo shoot of the subject(s). This will take about an hour. I will view the images on a computer and develop the final composition for the drawing. Once I am happy with the composition, I will email you a black and white photo showing what I will be drawing. Upon approval of the photo reference and compositional plan a deposit of 50% of the commission is paid.

Drawing

Based on our consultations, I will then begin drawing the portrait. My goal will be to produce a strong work of art that stands on its own while capturing the essence of the subject in a manner pleasing to you.

Price Schedule

Pricing begins at $400 (framed) for a 12" by 16" head and shoulders in graphite including the photo shoot and consultations. The cost increases proportionally for each additional figure (See Pricing Chart). Showing of the hands, full figures, complex poses and backgrounds would also increase the cost as this greatly increases the time required to complete the drawing.
